Forced Checkmates That Might Just Break Your Brain

PuzzleEndgameChess
Think you’ve got it all figured out? Let’s find out. These positions feature forced checkmating sequences — and just when you think you’re done, the next one adds even more moves. Brace yourself, your sanity is on the line!

Disclaimer

To the chess community: I’m truly sorry.
I didn’t mean to create a collection of puzzles that’ll make you question every life decision leading up to this moment. But here we are — longer checkmates, bigger chaos, and zero mercy. What you’re about to see might cause mild headaches, existential dread, and a sudden urge to uninstall your engine. Proceed at your own risk, as these checkmating sequences are not for the faint of heart. (And strictly NO hints this time)

Quick Note :
For each puzzle, I have given links to the positions and the solutions separately.
All positions are "White to move"
Now let's begin!

Warm Up?

Relax folks. Here's a couple positions to warm you up. The first puzzle would be a one move checkmate (that I created) & the second puzzle would be a two move checkmate. The second position might look trippy, but is actually not that difficult.

Puzzles that amazed me!

Here you will find checkmates in three, four, five and eight respectively.
Five years back, when going back home from college, I saw on an instagram post the 'mate in three' one. It took approximately 10 minutes for me to solve it while being inside my college bus, which was 'turbulent' throughout the journey. I am not sure about the source of rest of the puzzles (since I found them around the same time period). I managed to solve mate in 3,4&5 but not the mate in 8 one. I lost my mind, gave up and had to rely on stockfish for the solution.

Lengthy ones...

Now starts the real chaos. To be honest, the positions will not be that chaotic. Good luck!

Climax.

Your nightmare ends here. There will be two checkmate in 16 puzzles and one checkmate in 19 puzzle. The engines will fail to find the solution for one of the 'mate in 16' positions and the 'mate in 19' one. Stockfish realizes the win only after some progress.

Don't be mad

Firstly, I apologized in advance (but will do it again). Secondly, I am pretty sure that only a few positions were truly testing.
A quick survey;

  1. Did you lose your mind ( just like me :| )
  2. The duration to solve the 'mate in 3' puzzle
  3. Were you able to solve the 'mate in 8' ?
  4. Your thoughts on the second 'Mate in 16'
  5. Have you seen any of the puzzles before? - Comments section for (1 to 5)

On the brighter side, I hope this was enjoyable too.
